Question: How can I look natural on my wedding day but a little more glowing than every day? My fiancé likes me in minimal make-up but I know that I need more than usual for the photography. I also know that I want to look a little more glamorous than what I’m use to, it is my wedding day after all! Help!
Answer: I get this question, request, suggestion, dilemma and concern all of the time! Believe it or not, this photo above, Cameron Diaz has full make-up on. Foundation, concealor, highlighting, contouring, cheek color, bronzer, lip liner, lip color, lip highlight, eye liner, some individual lashes, mascara, lots of mascara, and eye shadow…did I mention good skincare practices? The better shape your skin is in the less make-up you need so get to work!
You can pull off a natural, dewy look kissed by the sun but it does require some make-up. If applied right, you can feel like it’s just a step up from the normal everyday wear.
If you are getting a trial make-up before the big day, remember, you are probably not in your dress, heels, jewelry or hair style this day. Your bridal make-up is styled for the wedding day and designed to complete the look! It’s like an actress wearing Oscar ready make-up while in jeans and running some errands. It’s going to feel like a bit more than normal.
A few suggestions by the team from Kari Addison Styling:
1. Go for more of a liquid or cream base over powder foundations. You can still apply a light dust of powder to set but stay away from full coverage powder foundation.
2. Mix a highlighting or bronzing cream in you foundation to give it more of a soft glow.
3. Instead of heavy eye shadow, try to focus more on a darker upper lash line by getting as close as you can to your real lash line. Add individual or lash ends (or a half lash strip). Keep all make-up on top and add a soft gray satin or soft gold shadow like shown on the photo above underneath the bottom lash.
4. Lots of mascara but not the kind that clumps or flakes off.
5. Use more of a pink or peach lip color with a nude liner. Touch up throughout the night with a gloss. The best way to pick the right shade for you is to go play at your local MAC or Sephora make-up store. Bring a friend, snap some photos and take a look-see. Touch up throughout the night with a gloss.
6. Remember when Grandma used to pinch her cheeks to get them flushed looking? Cheek color is so important…just a little color on the apples of the cheek makes you look alive and vibrant.
We hoped this helped you and check back for our suggestion on how to make your bridal make-up last for 6 to 8 hours!
